Chapter 11
Dez
For the past month, on the outside it seemed as though everything in my life was falling into place, but it wasn’t. Although I finally had the man who held the key to my heart, my brother was still out there, and God knows where. Until I found him, nothing in my life would be fully complete. I couldn’t move on and be happy without knowing whether or not he was.
CJ knew someone who could hack into any system and find anything you needed for the right price. And according to him, my little brother was with my mother’s sister from her father side, and her daughter. I never knew my mother had a sister let alone one that lived in the same city as me. All I was waiting on was a text message with my aunt’s address, and I would be on my way. I was already sitting in my car waiting when I got the text and just plugged the address into my GPS.
Twenty minutes later my heart started beating fast as I pulled up to a rundown house that looked as though it was on its last leg. It wasn’t the sight of the house that caused alarms, but the ambulance pulling off from in front of the house. The screams that could be heard coming from inside of the house caused me to quickly hop out of the car and run to the door. Before I made it to the front door, I made sure my gun and knife was still in my purse. Just as I was about to knock, the door swung open and a girl named Cassidy, who graduated from my school last year, appeared with tears gushing down her face.
“Destiny, what are you doing here?” Cassidy asked as a little boy around ten years old walked up behind her with tears cascading down his face as well.
“I think I have the wrong house. I am looking for my mother’s sister Tasha and my little brother Desmond,” I answered as I pulled out my phone to double check the address again.
Before I could say anymore, the little boy came out of the house and hugged me tight. When he came rushing out of the house, I caught a quick glance at tiny burns on his neck from my mother, and knew this little boy with Cassidy was my brother Desmond. My mother Marsha had burned Desmond a few times when I was at school, and he wouldn’t stop crying. But the last time I saw him was when my mother held him down under the water and tried to drown him as she was screaming she had to get the demons out of him. I was only seven years old at the time and couldn’t get her to let him up. I still remember begging and pleading for her to stop, as I jumped in the tub and was able to lift him above the water just enough for him to breathe.
